This Netflix Original documentary was based around the latest technology phase of 3D Printing. Multiple companies have started making, developing, and selling 3D Printers to businesses and the general public. This movie follows three of the more well known companies. Let’s these three companies not by their real names, but by what they stand for, first there was the big expensive seller, next there was the cheaper seller focused on the general public, and then there was the geeky outsiders from the Boston area. All of these three companies were competing for their slice of the 3D printing world. They all had their own visions and they all wanted to succeed in making the best product for the consumer.
The big expensive seller was very in your face and kept an eye on competitors a lot. Even so far as to suing the Bostoners for what he thought was passing a line on his 3D Printing patents.
The cheaper seller was very focused on making a change in the world through education, health initiatives, etc.
And the geeky outsiders were just doing what they loved with little money, trying to get by, and raising money through online services. They were the startup that was always having trouble getting their product out there.
Also in the background there was this lone wolf guy by himself, who had setup ventures on trying to advertise his company of showing people how to use 3D printers to make guns. Which in my opinion, and in many of the other companies opinions was a stupid and crazy idea. He would post YouTube and other social media on his new guns he had made, and was surprisingly getting a lot of publicity.
I really liked how this movie was made, and how it showed each of the different characters of the 3D Printing puzzle. It showed how each one was different than each other, and how a company and an idea can go a long way if you put your mind into it. This movie also showed how much people change after being in a company for a long time. So many people in this movie quit there jobs because he was too much and the pressure got to them. The way this movie was directed and produced was very good. It was evenly spaced out into the different areas, and was well edited before its release on Netflix.
Overall, I would recommend to any lovers of Netflix and documentaries. I would give this movie an overall rating of 8 out of 10.
