Jumbo Wild – documentary review

This movie was very interesting and informed a lot about both sides concerning creating winter sports resorts. The Jumbo Valley has been one of a debate and arguments concerning whether it should stay open and at one with nature, or a person of non-Canadian decent should come in and make real estate and a ski resort a reality. People throughout the region are fighting against multiple business men and women for trying to disturb the pristine nature.

This movie was very well written, produced, and directed. There was a good mix of interviews, footage, and information. I believe this movie was written very well, but could have lasted longer and could have possibly been researched more. I would rate this movie an 8 out of 10.

Food Chains – Documentary Review

This movie was very well developed, produced, directed, and edited. There was just the right amount of interviews mixed with personal point of views and facts. It really was a very well written and researched documentary.

This documentary showed the troubling facts around the low wages of farm workers in this country. It described the immigration of different nationalities to different countries for farm labor, for example Filipinos to Hawaii and Mexicans to the US. This movie really showed the lives Mexicans and Hispanics lead to feed their families by working for sometimes less than minimum wage. The movie chronicled the fair food act hunger strike in Florida to try and make Publix add 1 cent extra per basket of tomatoes the farm workers pick. You will have to watch the movie to find out what happened in the end…

I would recommend this movie to any documentary lover or agriculture fan. I would rate this movie a 9 out of 10.

Bigfoot’s Reflections – Documentary Review

I was trying to take this movie seriously. It really was not well developed as a movie. It seemed like there wasn’t enough information to keep this movie interesting for that long. I was disinterested from the first quarter of the movie, and I knew that because it was not going to get better I would not watch the movie anymore. So I decided to pause the movie, and not watch anymore about half way through. This movie is based on the findings of people about the sightings and information on bigfoot or sasquatch. I would not recommend this movie to people, it is boring from the start. I would rate this movie a 4 out of 10.

The Culture High – Documentary Review

This movie chronicles the story behind marijuana legalization and prohibition. The movie interviews multiple scientists, authors, journalists, bloggers, ex-government officials, to get the answer whether pot should be legalized and if it ever will be in the US. This movie showed me just how bigoted politicians can be on a topic that isn’t even mine to really care about. I believe pot should be legalized, but not because I am a pot smoker, because I believe if alcohol and tobacco are legalized, pot is definitely not as bad as those, as this movie also reiterates. I do believe pot has its issues, but I don’t believe the government has the right to stop people from using it, and ultimately putting people in jail for using small amounts. After watching this documentary, I really understand how marijuana can be very useful to many people suffering medically, and should be seen has a possible aid for medicine uses.

Overall, this documentary was very interesting and should be watched by all documentary lovers. I would rate this movie a 7 out of 10.

The Alps from Above – Documentary

This documentary showed the Alps throughout the year with narration describing different areas of the video and how it is used during different times of year. This movie showed picturesque views of the Alps in Germany, France, Italy, and Switzerland. This movie helped me understand more about the Alps and what they do during the summer seasons. It also helped me understand how the locals use the Alps to their advantages, for example making crops on its mountain tops.

This movie was really well filmed. I recommend this movie to all people who like climate and nature documentaries. I rate this movie a 7 out of 10.

Mile…Mile & a Half – Documentary Review

This hiking nature and travel documentary shows a group of friends hiking the 219 mile John Muir Trail stretching Yosemite to Mount Whitney. This immensely difficult and challenging trail is incredibly beautiful and very picturesque. The movie chronicled their daily lives during this great feat that hundreds of people attempt each year.

The movie was well directed and well filmed, and the fact that the main purpose of the trip was for the natural and creative side of each of the members made this movie that much more interesting to me. I loved this movie from beginning to end. They met strangers on the way and many people joined them during their trip to continue the hike together. It really was a well documented expedition for success.

Overall, I would recommend this movie especially for the nature and travel enthusiasts and any lovers of documentaries. I would rate this movie an 8.5 out of 10.

Life (BBC Earth) – TV Show

After watching this show from start to end, I was very impressed (which I usually am with BBC nature shows). The camera work was amazing, the directing was super, the narrating was great (David Attenborough is the man…). The way this TV show was written, organized, and designed was very well executed. It was amazing how everything was put together so neatly and carefully. Every detail was taken into consideration. I bet they had to film multiple shots and get the best of the video footage.

I would recommend this to anyone, especially nature and animal freaks. I would rate this TV show a 9 out of 10 because of its superb filmography and narration.

Wander, Wonder, Wilderness – Documentary Review

This movie had some of the best cinematography and camera work I have seen for a long time. This film was about the parks, recreation areas, and green spaces in the Greater Boston area. The documentary was mostly video of parks throughout Boston with a narrator talking about the parks and Boston residents expressing their opinions on each of the specific parks and sites.

This movie was very well filmed and the scenery was amazing. The movie acted more like art at times than a movie. It was an informational art piece, in my opinion. I think at times it could have been shortened, even though only an hour long. It did drag on a bit at times. I do believe the use of filming real people may have helped get the full picture of what this movie was trying to convey. The use of multiple still images at times was a really nice touch.

This movie was well directed and used great camera skills. I would rate this movie a 6 out of 10, and would recommend for anybody who is interested in the outdoors and nature.
