Jimmy Carr: Funny Business – Stand-up Review

This stand up set was full of great short yet hilarious jokes and phrases. Jimmy Carr’s style was brash and harsh. He was very skilled with his delivery and abilities. During the show he used texts from the audience and really incorporated the audiences reactions to his set. He used the audience throughout his set, for his jokes and his success. The set was well written and well directed.

I would recommend this movie to any stand-up fan, and will rate it an 8 out of 10.

About Time – Movie Review

This movie was very well directed and produced. It also had an amazing cast. This movie was funny, heartwarming, and reminded me of the UK. The movie tells the story of a son who is told by his father he has the power to go back in time and fix any previous mistakes, which the son wholeheartedly thinks is a joke. After doing as his father tells him, he finds out it is true and can really go back in time. This movie chronicles the life of him, his family, and his future immediate family. It shows disaster, comedy, drama, romance, it has everything a movie date night needs.

This movie is spot on and great for anyone. I would rate this movie a 9 out of 10.

Five Minutes of Heaven – Movie Review

I was very surprised, for a good reason, by this movie. It showed me just how a terrifying period in history can make such a huge change to the future. It wasn’t a documentary, however it was based around historical events that were happening.

This movie chronicles the story of the fight between Protestants and Catholics in Ireland. The movie focuses on a Northern Irish teenager who shoots this younger Irish boy’s brother in front of him, and ruins his life forever. Skip 30 years and we see the brother and the murderer about to meet up for a special TV broadcasting designed for reconciliation. However, the brother, played by James Nesbitt, bails out at the last minute and leaves the now healed teacher, played by Liam Neeson to try and track him down without any cameras around.

Finally, they decide to meet, and after a huge fight, etc. etc. things get resolved and all becomes well in some way. This movie just shows how good these two actors are at portraying these roles, the acting and the choice of actors was spot on. The camera work, directing, and plot line was also extremely well done. This movie was so well done, I would give it a 10 out of 10, and would recommend it to everyone, especially the dramatic and fast-paced movie lovers.

Derek (Full Series): TV Review

Even though I completed watching this series a long time ago I think this show deserves a mention on my blog.

First off let me start by talking about the legendary TV and movie actor/writer/director Ricky Gervais, who created this Netflix original series. He is a mastermind throughout TV and movies. He created the “original” Office and wrote the very popular travel show An Idiot Abroad. He is very well known all over, but more especially in mine and his home country, UK. However, I have noticed his scripted work is a lot better than his stand up. His stand up is very offensive and, in my opinion, not very tasteful. Nevertheless, he has been very successful throughout his career.

So first, the story and plot to the TV show. The title of this TV show is the name of the main character of this TV show. He is a mentally disabled man, who works at an old peoples home helping elderly people with their day-to-day lives. Throughout the two seasons of this series, there are many humorous lines and scenarios. Ricky Gervais player the character Derek really well and, in my opinion, it was some of his best acting I have seen. At times the TV show was very emotional, especially the last episode of the first season. Ricky Gervais played his role with great emotion connected with even better humor, when needed. Other actors included the main star of An Idiot Abroad as a caretaker at the elderly home. The rest of the cast was full of multiple British stars who were workers at the home.

Overall, I would highly recommend this TV show. The tone of the show is ever-changing and hilariously moving. The acting throughout is of pretty good quality. Ricky Gervais has not let people down here. He is at his best again. I rate this TV show a 9 out of 10. So go out and watch it, it is available only on Netflix.
